Diving for Dollars

As experienced abalone divers, Tom and Joel have turned their hobby into a way to raise money for local nonprofits like the Cameo Theater, Voices, St. Helena Rotary, and the St. Helena Hospital Foundation.  So far, they have donated abalone dinners that have brought in over $20,000 to these and other organizations.

Not only do Joel and Tom free dive as deep as 25 feet off the Mendocino coast for the slippery mollusks, but they prepare, cook and serve the dinner, too.  The abalone dinner auction item is a hotly sough-after prize at charity auctions throughout Napa Valley.
